About BCMT
Did you know that BCMT is the only fully accredited, nonprofit massage therapy school in the western United States? They offer the most complete, most rigorous Certified Massage Therapist (CMT) curriculum in the country, along with advanced occupational therapy studies. Students are taught by distinguished faculty whose innovative techniques and medical research keep them at the cutting edge of the health services field. Financial aid and graduate placement services are available. Visit their website at www.bcmt.org.
Service Learning is a phenomenal progral that focuses on enhancing the learning of student while enriching the community. Click here to learn more about some of the fabulous programs students have participated in.
"Make Your Own Job" Program
In Nov. 2011, BCMT created the "Make Your Own Job" Program, which offers a special tuition rate for registrants who have received unemployment benefits at any time over the last 24 months. Coupled with financial aid, this program reduces tuition costs by $1,000 and enables a student to become a Certified Massage Therapist in just nine months, often without incurring any out-of-pocket tuition expenses.
BCMT developed this program for ambitious workers who are no longer willing to wait for the right job to come along. For those resolved to gain control of their future, BCMT can provide a new skill set and get them working again--making good money, working on their own schedule, and feeling the satisfaction of providing a vital service to their clients--in as little as 9 months.

- "Operation: We've Got Your Back"
Do you know any veterans who would be interested in BCMT’s new program called “Operation: We’ve Got Your Back,” which offers $1,000 in tuition reimbursement to U.S. military veterans and their families? Coupled with armed services education benefits, this program enables a veteran to become a certified massage therapist in as little as nine months, often without incurring any out-of-pocket tuition expenses.
More than half of veterans deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan return home with mental or physical health issues. The most common condition is post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) followed by musculoskeletal problems. Massage therapy can play a vital role in breaking the cycle of PTSD hyperarousal, the activation of the fight or flight response that causes stress in the brain and muscles. As a result, it can help diminish anxiety and invigorate immune systems compromised by the condition. In addition, massage therapy can provide relief from the aches and pains, muscle tension, physical numbness, and reduced range of motion that often result from rigorous service on the battlefield.

- BCMT’s Service Learning for Students, “Enriching Your Community”
BCMT students have been interning and volunteering in the community since 1979. BCMT has a commitment to be actively involved in the wellbeing of our community through its Service Learning program, which focuses on enhancing the learning of students while enriching the community. Students have the unique opportunity to share massage therapy in a variety of community settings and with many different populations. These experiences inspire their confidence by allowing them to apply the skills they learn in the classroom and clinic. This fieldwork also allows the student to bring specific questions back to their course instructors for insightful discussions. During this process of reaching out, students continue to facilitate the acceptance and credibility of massage therapy as a healing art and science.
BCMT’s alumni also have opportunities to give back to the community. Please contact Aspen Sullivan (asullivan@bcmt.org).
